Honeywell PCR426W Atomic Projection Alarm Clock with Projected Weather Forecast, Time and Outdoor Temperature

The Honeywell PCR426W Atomic Projection Alarm Clock is the first projection alarm clock we've seen that actually projects a weather forecast icon as well as time and outdoor temperature onto the ceiling. Another unusual feature is the display backlight that can remain on continuously, or automatically adjust it's brightness to suit the room light level.

The Honeywell PCR426W Weather Forecasting Atomic Projection Alarm Clock is black with silver trim and red accents and backlights. It's about 4 3/4 inches tall, excluding the stand, and 7 1/4 inches wide. The display backlight can be configured to remain off (as in the picture on the left), lit constantly (as in the picture on the right), or to automatically set itself according to the light level in the room.

Features:

The Honeywell PCR426W Atomic Projection Alarm Clock display is made up of three circular "windows".

Time: The large circular time window displays the current time in 12 hour format, plus a day of the week abbreviation in your choice of English, French or Spanish. You may configure the clock to display seconds instead of day of the week. Below the time is the date in Month/Date format.

The clock synchronizes itself to the atomic clock in Ft. Collins Colorado by receiving WWVB radio transmissions from up to 2000 miles away*. A signal reception icon is displayed when the WWVB signal has been received. The clock may be set for Pacific, Mountain, Central or Eastern time zones. Daylight Saving Time changes are made automatically according to the WWVB transmission, and cannot be disabled.

The clock also has alarm functions, including a weekday alarm, a single day alarm, and a cold weather pre-alarm.

The weekday alarm will sound at your chosen time every day of the week, Monday through Friday.

The single day alarm is set to sound once. It can be used to wake at a different time any day of the week without disturbing the weekday setting.

The cold weather (ice warning) pre-alarm feature allows you to set the alarm to go off early if the outdoor temperature is below freezing. The pre-alarm feature can be set to trigger the weekday or single alarm early in increments of 15 minutes, from 15 minutes to 90 minutes.

All three alarms have a 5 minute snooze function activated by a snooze button on the top of the unit.

Weather forecast: The weather window displays a weather forecast icon representing the likely weather conditions for 12 to 24 hours into the future. Accuracy of the prediction is about 70%. One of six icons will be displayed, Sunny, Partly Cloudy, Cloudy, Rainy or Stormy.

Temperature and Humidity: The temperature window shows the temperature (in °F or °C) for indoors and the selected outdoor (or other remote) channel. Up to three remote locations can be displayed. One remote sender is supplied, additional TS13C sensors are available separately. You also see a signal reception icon for the selected remote sensor.

TS13C temperature sensor with display (maximum transmission range of 100 feet or 30 meters with no interference). This remote can rest on a horizontal surface, or it can be wall-mounted via a keyhole slot on the back.

The remote sender uses two AA alkaline batteries. If below-freezing temperatures are expected, use lithium batteries in the outdoor remotes instead of alkaline.

Projection: The Honeywell PCR426W Atomic Projection Alarm Clock has two projectors. The time projector projects current time and outdoor temperature. The projector can project on the ceiling, or be rotated forward or back 90 degrees to project on a wall. The projector has focus control, and a control to rotate the image a full 360 degrees. Brightness is appropriate for a darkened room. The weather projector always points at the ceiling, and has no rotation capability. Brightness is also appropriate for a darkened room.

Note: The Honeywell PCR426W Atomic Projection Alarm Clock has "atomic" clock functionality. Atomic, or radio controlled, clocks receive a radio signal to set themselves. Like any radio receiver, however, they may not be able to receive the signal if they are in a building with a lot of steel in the structure, near computers or other electrical equipment that may generate interference, or if the weather is unsuitable. The signal they receive does not propagate well during the day. That's the nature of the signal, not the clock. These clocks are designed to catch the signal when they can, generally in the middle of the night, calibrate themselves, and then run quite accurately for days until they can catch another signal. When you first put in the batteries, they will most likely not set themselves until the middle of the night. That's normal. By morning, weather permitting, it should be correct. Under less than ideal conditions, it could take a few days. Also, Daylight Saving Time changes may not be made the first night if location and weather are not favorable.
