Who we are: Welcome to the Partshelf.com
Inc. Web store. We
are an incorporated computer parts and techno products supplier located in Plainfield
Illinois (west of Chicago). We are for real, with a brick and mortar shop
and order fulfillment center, or shipping warehouse, as they used to be called.
We are not another dot.com vapor store, taking orders in somebody's basement
and passing them on to a drop shipper. We
carry inventory on everything but a few special order items. Our business is primarily mail order.
Our computer parts customers are knowledgeable hobbyists and smaller custom system builders.
Of course, our techno goodies can be appreciated and used by anybody. We also build computers,
with a growing percentage of our business being system sales. We are here to offer you a service.
We spend a lot of time looking for the best wholesale buys on the best
stuff. We have developed excellent working relationships with some very good
distributors and manufacturers. We carry products that we have
personally found to offer excellent performance for the price, a reliable
supply line, and have very low failure rates.
We pass the savings on to you.
We buy low, wholesale, by the case or more, and sell small to large
quantities. We keep the markup low (our net profit runs around 4%), and turn the inventory quickly. The way prices
drop in this industry, that 4% margin can vanish in a one week price drop. For
that reason, many of our customers find it is cheaper to buy
from us than stock their own inventory.
We keep inventory.
Unlike many web stores, we keep around a week or more inventory of nearly
everything in our warehouse. Currently, 99% of our orders ship the same
(received before noon) or the next (received after noon) business day. In an industry where almost everything is imported by ship,
shortages happen, and you can't speed up a container ship. The only way
you know you can reliably fill orders is if you have inventory. If a
customer buys from a web store that just forwards orders to distributors for
drop shipment (and there are many of those), delivery can be delayed if the
store's distributor is out of stock and waiting for the next container ship to
come in. That is not likely to happen here, we've invested a lot of money
in inventory to make sure we can deliver. I intend to add more low volume,
special order and built to order items in the near future, but they will always
be identified as special order items, with an accurate estimate of delivery
times.
Shipping.
We currently ship UPS, insured, with tracking numbers, or Priority Mail, insured
without tracking numbers. We try to keep the costs down as much as possible.
Please see the shipping page for details, click the button on the left.
Corrections.
Please note that all orders will be reviewed for correctness. Due to all the possibilities
for errors in processing and hacks from outside sources, prices and shipping charges
will be reviewed for accuracy and corrected (after emailing you) when necessary.
The two most common problems that show up are UPS servers allowing impossible
shipping choices, and customers entering "Customer Pickup" as a
shipping option when they live 1000 miles away. Believe it or not, the UPS
shipping servers, which our order process gets shipping rates from, will allow
you to request having a truck drive your package from Chicago to Hawaii (glub
glub).

Payment Information
Partshelf.com accepts Visa and Mastercard for
web purchases. We can offer a 2% cash discount if you prefer to
mail a money order. Email us for details.
Customer Pickup
As our business is primarily mail order, our hours
are irregular, we are often out during the day purchasing product, installing
systems, and making Postal Drop-offs. If you are local and would
like to pick up your order (it can save significant money on monitor orders),
we will try to arrange a time for you to meet us at the shop. Evenings
and Saturday mornings work best, as weekdays are usually chaotic.
