NSF Certification: What does it mean when a product is NSF Certified? The short answer is that NSF Certification means the design, materials, production process and quality controls used in the production of a product have been verified and certified for food safety by a highly respected third party non-profit organization. NSF certification is often required by health departments for all products used in the storage and preparation of food. Getting, and maintaining NSF certification for a product is an involved process, and the added quality controls can add to the cost of the product. For this reason, you will not see the NSF certified symbol on low quality products that are manufactured to be sold at the lowest possible prices with little regard to safety and accuracy.
